Framework for integrating generative AI into educational tasks (MIAE)
Six ways to share work between people and AI. MIAE describes precisely what each contributes to an educational task. It does not measure quality, effort or learning.
MIAE helps students and teachers describe generative AI use, agree how it may be used in a task and explain the process they followed.
Define the task
Identify who performs it and which product or component you are classifying: a report, its illustration or the analysis of a text.
Consider the whole process
Describe what AI contributed and what the person did with it. The first prompt, the amount of text and the number of messages do not determine the level.
Explain the classification
Justify the level through the division of work. If phases or components differ, declare their respective levels rather than automatically choosing the highest.
Levels describe how work is shared. Neither a higher nor a lower level means better quality or more learning, and there is no need to go through the earlier levels.
